Long Term Strategy for Regaining Republican Dominance
CONFIDENTIAL -- NOT FOR PUBLIC RELEASE
- Exploit patriotism and the fear of terror to maintain
support for the President and the GOP policies. Maintain the country
in a heightened state of fear and anxiety.
- Use the War on Terror as an excuse for larding corporate
supporters in the defense industry, defunding government programs, and
reducing civil liberties.
- Keep the military actively engaged in Iraq throughout 2008, thereby leaving the problem for the next president, probably a Democrat, to solve. Then blame the Democrats for losing the war on terror when the Middle East dissolves into chaos.
- Call anyone who opposes the war in Iraq unpatriotic, a moonbat, etc.
- Foster instability in the Middle East, discourage
conservation, and oppose gas mileage standards, in order to prop up oil
prices, thereby enriching GOP supporters in the energy industry and
justifying continued inaction on global warming and environmental
protections.
- Increase the deficit by cutting taxes, thereby forcing a fiscal
crisis that will justify dismantling New Deal social programs.
- Oppose national health insurance and reform of the health
care system, to maintain support by the pharmaceutical and insurance
industries.
- Instead of actually reducing government spending (which
would cost political support), redirect government spending to causes
beneficial to Republican interests: hand out no-bid contracts and tax cuts to corporate
donors, continue delivering pork to constituents, and borrow money to prop
up the US economy in the short term. Even if the Democrats win in 2008, they
will be the ones who will have to deal with the deficits, rising interest
rates, and the trough of the economic cycle.
- Buy off the mainstream media, by allowing concentration of
media ownership and by granting other regulatory and tax favors.
- Ridicule and marginalize the alternative media.
- Classify any documents that could embarrass the
administration, maximize secrecy by prosecuting government employees
who leak information, and force journalists to reveal their sources by
lawsuits.
- Exploit anti-gay sentiments to mobilize the Religious
Right. Support a National Marriage Amendment (with the knowledge that it has
no chance of passage).
- Utilize wiretapping and NSA secret programs to investigate
political opponents.
- Continue to promise the Christian Right action on abortion
rights, gay marriage, and other values issues. But deliver as little as
possible, to keep them voting for us, to stop them from becoming concerned
about social justice issues, to avoid alienating swing voters, and to satisfy the Libertarian branch
of the GOP.
- Ensure that makers of electronic voting machines are
Republican allies.
- Continue funding groups like Swift Vote Veterans for Truth,
right wing think tanks and bloggers, to keep the Dems on the defensive.
